Floyd County, Iowa | Hmmm. Better look at myself a bit differently, according to you.
When I took my CDL driving test, about 25 years ago, it was a DOT requirement that the driver performed a successful double clutch at least once during the driving test. If you didn't, it was a point deduction just like shifting in an intersection.
I drove mostly trucks with Cat engines for many years at my day job at the co-op. Those had "mechanical" throttles, so they shifted so smoothly they almost did it themselves. We had several with Cummins ISX engines, too, with "electronic" throttles. Going from a Cat to a Cummins was not always smooth, especially if the transmission was tight. On those, I always double clutched the first day in one, until I got myself to feather the throttle pedal like the Cummins liked it. Then I could shift "normally".
I ran anywhere from 250 to 600 miles a day, 12 to 18 hour days, 5 to 7 days a week, depending on the time of year. Hauled off many farms with a goat path for a lane, tight building sites, narrow gravel roads. I considered myself a truck driver, but evidently not up to your high standards.
You must be a real professional.**********
To berate someone because they double clutch is just being a self righteous ass.
