Michigan | Oof. I ended up with a new pump a few years back.
First job of the year is streaming 28% on the wheat. Kept losing pressure, slowing down to maintain rate, until it just wasn't enough to continue. I pulled off one valve block and the diaphragm was cracked. Went and got a kit (valves, seals, and diaphragms), not cheap. Pulled off some more valves and saw the pistons were loose. Turns out when you leak fertilizer into the crankcase, it rusts everything away. Probably leaked the previous year and after sitting all winter was not good. Would have needed new pistons, a new shaft, bearings and seals. The case was also showing distress, but I think could have been reused. Took the seal kit back, ordered a new pump, and it only cost a little more than all those parts.
This year, I opened it up just to make sure no liquid was in the crankcase. | |
