How wide of an area are you wanting to cover ? and how much product ? Pulverized or pelleted lime ?

About 3-4 ft wide. With lime I would probably go with pelleted but I’m wanting to use diatomaceous earth for insect deterrent. Thats the reason I first started thinking about the meter box. Amazon sells some handheld dusters that are hand crank hand have a one pound hopper. That would be a lot of filling and a lot of cranking to cover 5 acres. They’re cheap though so I may buy one to test before I spend much money on my meter box idea.


Later 7000 planter boxes would be more capacity but you still need to figure out a way to drive with chain perhaps electric motor. Not ideal for heavier products like pulverized lime.

Ground drive is what I was thinking so ground speed wouldn’t matter


There are larger 3 point and pull type drop box spreaders. Tires drive an agitator/impeller shaft in the bottom of the box and the bottom is a hinged gate style for metering

I thought about that but I can’t think of a way to use them to feed a blower for the diatomaceous earth
