Then add additional equipment costs for turning that ground over at regular intervals to keep it top notch (tillage, seeding, fertilizing, spraying etc).
You're thinking of 4-5 cuttings of alfalfa per year off of good ground. ~5000-6000 tons of hay.
I think the OP is talking more like low quality ground with an old stand of permanent grass on it. Might be less than 1000 tons per year.
Hence the $10,000 budget. You can’t spend $250k on machinery with a gross income of $100k.
