East of Broken Bow | You have the right idea on the trailing depth arms, plus the way they are setup, you don't need scrapers for the opener disks, which is a plus.
As to the offset openers, in my opinion, they are better than the standard openers in about anything except full tillage. They are self-sharpening and we never had to adjust them, they just worked until they were worn out. They only had one real weakness I am aware of: You need to be traveling forward when you drop the planter or you risk plugging the unit, especially in tilled ground. You don't need to be moving very fast, any forward motion is enough.
For me (and my uses) I honestly would just as soon have an 950 Cyclo planter as anything (run a White currently). I am 8 row, so I would only run one hopper and drum. I really like how quick and easy it is to switch from corn to beans, and how it will still plant with only a couple handfuls of seed in the hopper. Never had to mix graphite or talc in with the seed, just drop it in and plant. Would still have our old one except that it was rigid frame, end transport and we have several small fields where we have to road in between, and go through gates/drives narrow enough we need to fold. | |
