Which is exactly why they needed to aggressively go after China. Their (China) goal was always just to sign the agreement and walk away if Trump lost. No different than all the IP stuff, China takes and then never lives up to their end of the bargain. They are not Europe, central america or even the Russians who at least try to maintain agreements. I’d suspect their economy is really worse than they portray if they came to the table this fast - I also don’t think the agreement is going to stabilize their economy as an aging and shrinking workforce isn’t going to grow. How many times have our grain markets moved because “Chinese cancelation of shipments”? Bout time they felt the pain of markets crashing on their end.
If Trump can convince the rest of the world that China is a bully and needs to play by the rules his presidency will be a success. Why did China cave ?? Because the U.S. is in the process signing deals with everyone else, so they’d be left out. Remember the reason the world opened to them was an untapped market of 1.4 billion people - guess what, those 1.4 billion don’t spend anything because it’s the CCP getting rich, not the people.
Maybe, just maybe, both sides didn't cave but realized they were both heading towards disaster? |
