Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I have used an Ag Leader system with their Application Rate Module to do what you propose. Although the Ag Leader is different some observations might be helpful.
You ask about connecting the two devices together so the Raven would still be handling the spray control etc. but the Deere would be creating a coverage and rate map. This should be possible as others have mentioned. A other's have mentioned this would not allow auto section control. The operator would still use the Raven section switches and Master as before.
A proper cable is needed to connect the two devices together. Other's have indicated a cable that should work for you. Your Raven must be reasonably new. The very old Raven's did not have a 9 pin serial port on their back. These have been present for several years and your Raven must have it.
Second and the main reason for my reply is that certain settings are required in the Raven. With an Ag Leader (guessing that your Deere would be similar) the settings involve 1) turning the data logger ON (it will likely be set to OFF), 2) Setting the required BAUD rate (Ag Leader uses 9600), 3) Set data TRIGger to SEConds (Choices are seconds or feet) and 4) trigger interval of 1 (meaning transfer data every 1 second). These settings are often under the DATA key sub menus. The order is which they are changed is somewhat confusing at times.
These settings set up the Raven to transfer its information about which sections are ON, what the flow rate is etc. to the other device at a BAUD rate of 9600 and do this every 1 second. This information coupled with the GPS location in the 2630 allow the 2630 to create a rate and coverage map for you. These maps can be extremely useful.
With an Ag Leader, it can send over new rates to the Raven if desired. These new rates could come from an Rx file on a memory stick. This feature was optional. I did not use it and just decided when to change rate myself.
