North Central Illinois | I can get everything dead with a Howard Rotavator (well except for the nasty stuff like Canada thistle, but the plow doesn't get those either).
That said, if there's pasture that's mostly grass NOW there's no good option and the plow is probably the best one.
I've settled on using the rotavator in August then disking a few weeks later and drilling a cover crop mix that will winter kill when going from grass to corn or using a winter crop like canola as the first crop after killing the sod.
I still own a plow and use it when it is the appropriate tool. | |
