Do you mean Pixie Crunch? If so, according to the notes I wrote in my Gurney's catalog last year, yes, Pixie Crunch needs a pollinator, and will pollinate with Sundance, Gold Rush, and Liberty. I know, not what you wanted to hear, but it appears that the only truly self-pollinating common fruit is the sour cherry. I did some research on pollinators and crown sizes before buying. As a result, my orchard, set on my backyard of less than 1/8 acre, looks like this: 1. Gold Rush mini-dwarf apple 2. Pixie Crunch mini-dwarf apple 3. Patio nectarine, planted in the ground 4. Hardy fig 5. Apricot tree 1 (forgot variety) - cold hardy 6. Apricot tree 2 (forgot variety) - cold hardy 7. Columnar apple 8. 5-variety dwarf cherry (sour Montmorency, sweet - Van, Ranier, Queene Anne, Bing) 9. Blueberry 1 (forgot variety) 10. Blueberry 2 (forgot variety) By my calculations, I think I planned right for the pollinators. This year will be only the second year for all of these. |
