TX & AR | I have done this for the last 25 years. Not saying its best but what I continue to do to this day. Rope calf, can usually just slip rope over calf, the day of or day after birth. Tie rope off to gator, truck, horse, etc. Stretch calf out with tension on rope, lay calf on side, step on leg between hoof and knee that is on the ground holding between boot heel and sole of boot. Take your other leg and the calf's other back leg and hold it back, reach down with disposable scaple and cut bottom of scrotum off. Pull each testicle one at a time until cord breaks or near breaks. Cut each cord if doesn't break. Clean up cord strings if there are any left by cutting them high and tight. Turn calf loose. Depending on the cow, have done this same thing on the ground, on back of truck or side by side. You will be able to tell how the cow acts if you need to go to a safer area. Again, others may disagree, but continues to work well for me.
