Altoona, WI | I attended UW Mad City in the 80s. Have fond memories of spending time on the east side with school buddies doing various things. I pulled off the Interstate a couple of years back to grab something to eat while traveling down there and was absolutely shocked at how the east side has degraded into a near slum. Bars on windows and doors are a great indicator. It was fairly late at night and even the Kwik Trip was closed, something I have never seen before. And for some reason, none of the public restrooms were open. Being a hick, I could only assume it had something to do with drug activity. I thought I was going to have to drive to Illinois to take a leak, but I ended up ducking around behind another closed gas station, probably at great risk to my own life doing so with one hand on my rifle and the other on my gun. | |
