Subject: RE: Moving the farm

Bow Island, Alberta
I can’t give you any tax advice since I’m in another country. But I live in an area with many first and second generation farmers. Most people my parent’s generation came from another country. Numerous current farmers came from other countries or other areas. Some have similar farms to the area the came from but many grow totally different crops. I would recommend looking around at other areas to see what you might like. One farmer moved to our neighborhood because he always wanted to grow crops with irrigation. One sold a broiler chicken operation. Some farmers just want to try something new. If you have family, their input will be important as well, for things such as social activities, schools, sports, church, etc. A family I know came from a populated area where all the roads were paved. The wife didn’t want to live anywhere that would require driving a gravel road.
