Subject: roller crimping timing

North west Il.
We are going to roller crimp rye with out chemical termination the overall goal is to see if we can get the rye to be our weed control the rye is established very well and is currently about 24 to close to 30 inches tall and putting heads on the rye plants. beans where drilled into the standing Rye 3 days ago and looks like they will start to emerge in 3 to 5 days from now. will be using a roller crimper with a chevron pattern of cleats that are about 1/2 inch protruding from the solid drum. so my question is really what should our timing be when to run the crimper in regards to the soy bean emergence, prior to emergence or if post emergence what Growth stage do the beans need to be as to not damage them with the crimper. thanks Phil
