I used one of those when I put an all new furnace and AC system in my house. On the right side in line with the drill is a cutter that cuts on the side and end. You drill a hole with it in the center of where you want the hole. Then the pin just right of center goes in the hole. Pierce the metal with the bit again and pivot the cutter on the pin. The pin is in a slotted hole therefore adjustable to make a range of hole sizes. It's as handy as a pocket on a shirt.

Other than cutting on saw horses (down) is better than overhead.
Overhead isn't terrible -much better than overhead with a hole saw |
