It’s sure the best way to make “hay” in the spring, but still can get weather that prevents timely harvest.

We farm heavy clay prairie soils, so it’s possible you have good weather but still can’t get out on the field before the next rain. Always figured folks on sand could more reliably harvest haylage or bale silage in the spring.

We did a little haylage once we got a small bagger, but never got into it big time. Corn silage was more of a sure thing and if it got to raining and you had to go anyway and bogged up in a field, it wasn’t as big of a deal to fix it later.
