Subject: RE: Moving the farm

deep SW On.
Hide ... I have no real answer but a lot of farms are facing the same thing...Urban sprawl or higher value uses for the land.

What (for us here) complicates selling/moving is land is expensive evry place now in Ontario. Had a Bil move in the '80's 200 miles north and then selling 1 acre here bought 3 there. Today that land north where he bought sells for more than where we are if its an even farmland for farmland deal..

Idk "how many $$" a move would cost but you lose rented land which probably you can't replace and it takes maybe $10 mil. for a stand alone farm

With 30 yrs. and kids who may want to farm you will need to do a lot of research...Anything from horticulture to grains/oilseeds or out west with small grains..Sorry no help but keep us updated. Some from here have made big moves like 600 miles north to fringe areas, a few successful, several moved back.

An Amish guy doing some building work here had Church members make the big North move and said "if you got a millon for your farm you need to spend a million in new area, were many wanted to spend $200k and keep the rest" ....This conversation would have been 10 yrs. ago...Now a million doesn't even get you started
