Keep in mind it’s cheaper to get beans from Brazilian ports to China than it is for any eastern US based ports. West Coast ports have a slight shipping cost advantage but the rail costs get cost prohibitive once away from the Dakotas. No amount of tariffs change that math. So we have to force a consumer to pay more for a product which means mandating purchases. It’s not all political. There are basic economics at work. Ill admit I’ve never researched shipping logistics, question comes to mind. How does New Orleans fit into this mix? Would seem to me barges of Midwest raised grains floated down the big muddy would be the cheapest cost per bushel. |
