SE IL and SW IN | The dark purple flower suggests that the variety is from the same gene pool as the early flowering variety, Purple Bounty which was developed at ARS Maryland. It produced less than 100#N in two consecutive years of trials at my farm, compared to the later maturity varieties that produced up to 150#. That stand looks great, so at 50% efficiency, I would not be afraid to give it 50#N credit. The release of the N is mostly correlated to rainfall after first dry down of vetch (think of rained on alfalfa), so the release is quite variable.
Any comments I make about hairy vetch are subject to my next lesson on humility that will surely come in short order.
