mascoutah, IL | I’m in a neighborhood that has some pretty darn good dirt. Can pump out 250+ corn on a perfect year but you don’t have to go very far south or east before it falls off fast. I currently have zero planted. Had a little window back before Easter but nobody went. Had 4 inches of rain coming and it verified. On my soils 2 inches is almost a guaranteed replant. Seems like we replant a third of our crop every other year. I’m sure there is something planted somewhere but I haven’t seen it. March was really nice here. Got all spraying done and NH3 but waterhemp are now breaking. Could go possibly by Monday or Tuesday but rain in the forecast for those days and then rain again all next weekend. If long range verifies it will be June before we turn a wheel but who knows these forecasts seem to flip daily. I have grown some good crops in early June but have to deal with wetter corn in the fall of course. My all time best corn was planted June 1st 4 or 5 years ago so haven’t given up hope on yield. I would guess 90+ percent of NH3 is on here so I don’t see anyone switching to beans until later in June. | |
