I'd consider the heifers he's expected to breed. Are they home raised? unknown? how much calving ease do THEY bring to the table? After all, the heifer is 50% of the whole equation.. maybe more seeing pelvic opening certainly has a tad bit of influence here.
Then consider the overall phenotype of the bull. Nice bullet shaped head vs. big wide poll. Same with shoulders; are they smooth or quite blocky?
There's more to this than staring at a print out.
While his 75 act. BW catches my eye, be aware there is variability in ET calves. one study with clone calves showed almost a 20% lighter calf when it was ET'd. That's huge. Another group of 'steins showed the natural/AI group being 8-10#'s lighter than their ET counterparts. Also quite remarkable. Not all studies show this, this are the extreme cases. So, that factor might not be a pleasant gamble with heifers. |
