I had an xr500 for a while back in the 80s , that thing was kind of scary fast . Have and xr650l now , love the thing for crop scouting but it’s a pouch compared to that old 500.
That 650 has potential like you can't believe. My old man has one. I worked it over a few years ago for him. High compression piston, "stage 1" cam, FXR carb, oil cooler, full RaceTech suspension and a fork brace.
Completely different bike. Mop the floor with your old 500. Throttle only wheelies in 4th gear.
