Subject: RE: Honda Xr400 mods

I bought a Honda XR650R new in 2000 and had way too much fun "checking fields". IIRC (it's been awhile) there was a factory? power up kit I had installed aa Honda dealership that took the 4 stroke stock hp from something like 42 hp to 58hp. IT WAS AMAZING! It was only a couple hundred $$$ and it was re jetting the carb, a different sized fitting (I can't remember the proper term) between the carb and motor, something like 22MM to 30MM size and some liner? taken out of the exhaust pipe. There was more that could be done to the head etc but that was a lot more $$$$$s.

Looking back on my "checking crops" it had to be the good Lord keeping me alive because I certainly wasn't smart enough to do it on my own. I enjoyed doing wheelies too much on it. With the 4 stroke motor, the motor acted almost like a "jake brake" and could be used as a brake if the front end started going over backwards. Because of the motor's HP/torque, I could get the front end off the ground in all 5 gears. I got to the point that I could get the front end off in 1st gear and shift into the other 4 gears with the front end still up.

Luckily I sold the bike several years ago before I had a serious accident.
