It could be a combination of things. When the striker loses its sharp edge the door latch will not have a sharp edge to latch to. Also, If the latch gets slightly rounded off and the spring gets weak it can’t get a good hold on the striker. Add all this to worn hinges and a saggy door. Lift up on the door to see if there is up and down movement.
