I have an '03 XR400 and have had it since probably 2006. Did the Gordon's mods in maybe 2010 and had them on it since so I guess 15 years or so with it that way. 

Yep she wakes it up pretty well. I just cleaned my carb over the winter after it wouldn't idle for more than 5 sec due to a clogged pilot jet. 

For those that find it hard to start ever, look up the "flooded starting procedure" or something like that. Might even be in the manual. 

Do all these at the same time
-pull the decomp lever with left hand AND hold the kill switch down
-hold the throttle wide open
-slowly kick it over with no compression maybe 3-5 times

Let go of all the stuff you're holding and kick and it'll start in 2 kicks or less if the valves are in proper adjustment (did mine once years ago
