That’s true to the point of the lifetime exemption of the person dying, if the amount exceeds the lifetime exemption amount, you get new problems, that’s the issue of different administrations changing the tax laws , around me , there were many old farmers that shoved their estates in different directions quickly when Obama won his second term and the rumor mill declared he was dropping the lifetime exemption back to One million , that was also a big rumor in Just this past election , was supposedly a plan in place to lower the current lifetime exemption by a bunch, stepped up basis wouldn’t help many farmers heirs if it were changed back to One million
