Subject: RE: GM 6.2 V8 Recall

Mid Michigan
We have ran 70's Ford engines to over 300,000 miles. 351 M in a 78 LTD II is still sitting in dads back orchard with 335,000 miles. He drove it every day to work. Before that it was a 351 W in a 73 Grand Torino Sport that went over 250,000. Still has that one in the shed. They both got pretty respectable mileage and had decent power and torque with 2 barrel carbs. They didn't lack for power at all. Had simple C4 or FMX trans that lasted a long time. Sister had a Ford Torino Elite she drove easily over 200,000. Many chevy small blocks did over 200,000 easily. And if you needed to fix any of these engines a good 16 year old mechanic could rebuild one for $700 dollars or get another one from a junkyard for under $200 and be running again. You can buy a Goodwrench 350 from Jegs for $1200 or a roller 302 Ford from Summitt racing for $1200 and change them in a very short time. Now it takes $3000-$5000 dollars for a dealer to change a wet oil pump belt on a 3.0 Duramax pos. We have gone so far backward it's unreal. Ford could have kept the windsor motors and 460's for at least 30 more years and would have been much better off than what they're building now. A bunch of difficult to fix overcomplicated junk for engines.
