Subject: Calving better on grass

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I moved a group of cows who are post April 26 target calving date from their winter sacrifice pasture to fresh grass and the start of rotational grazing on May 4. Just one calf born in the sacrifice pasture where cows were basically just on hay. They were not at all excited about hay anymore after about 5-6 months of it, but their condition was still very good. Several have been bagged up for a week before hitting the grass.

Now it seems like within a few days of hitting green grass the calves have started dropping daily.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there maybe a correlation between good grass and the real start of calving?

As I recall when I put my bull in he got right to work so I don't think we can attribute this to my bull. He is a real chaser.
