I seem to recall that it had to do with an outside vendor who was assembling parts making unapproved changes on the crankshafts of motors going into the John Deere model 8520. They'd ground on the crankshafts with a grinder to make them fit easier. The problem was, it weakened them and then some of them broke and caused the recall. I could be wrong, though.
