Subject: Spraying winter annuals in wheat?

Northwest Ohio

Have not needed to spray winter annuals (mainly field pennycress) in winter wheat before, but after this year thinking I may need to start.

What is preferred option:

  • Burnown in fall, prior to planting?
  • Spray in fall after planting, but before dormancy?
  • Do nothing in fall, and spray in early spring (before nitrogen pass)?
  • Do nothing in fall, and spray in later spring (after nitrogen pass)?
  • Residual or no residual?

Have never sprayed herbicide in wheat before (either fall or spring) ... so trying to figure out best option for next year.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
