SE MN | Rsquared has nothing to do with the future. It is a measure of how well the trend line fits the data points that were included in the regression calculations. You can only predict the future if you assume that the conditions that prevailed under the previous time period remain unchanged or continue changing at the same rate and the physical relationships that turn inputs to outputs also remain unchanged or scale as needed.
The point that all time high yields are more likely than not based on recent experience stands, but that trend will eventually change. It could even steepen if AI creates nitrogen fixing corn and full time weed pulling robots that sprinkle fertilizer and water on a square inch basis. | |
