I will just report our experience. We don’t plant cereal rye very thick , 25-30#/acre. Prefer to terminate before knee high. We spray residual everytime and are certain it works. I have little to no experience with thicker and taller rye.

Similar experience here.

We seed around 30-35# and try to terminate it in the 8-12” range.

When we started with covers we were worried about this issue and just terminated the rye with glyphosate, AMS and maybe some 2-4D. We would always get a flush of pig weeds before we wanted to hit our post pass.

Have tried adding some different residuals but had issues with antagonizing the glyphosate and not getting a great kill or a much slower kill.

We have settled on Glyphosate, AMS and a pint of dual. This has helped us and been very consistent.
