Diabetics have to be aware of that also if on diabetic medications that cause the pancreas to pump out more insulin. Or insulin shots. They can have low blood sugar problems and have to reduce medication.
When I went low carb the first week only cut my carb consumption in half (to get rid of some groceries we had just bought). At the time I was taking 4 shots of insulin a day totaling 100 units. Had to cut that in half to maintain proper blood sugar. We felt so much better on the new diet we went whole hog and went to no more that 20 grams total carbs a day. Cut out the insulin entirely. Went from 4 shots a day totaling 100 units of insulin to zero in two weeks. Have been off insulin and all the rest of my diabetic and blood pressure meds now for six years.
So diabetic and blood pressure medicine definitely needs to be monitored if changing diet significantly. |
