My father had been a coal miner in his early years and continued to use blasting caps and dynamite while it was still available to remove stumps, large rocks, and occasional fish. Just had to watch out for flying objects. But he was good at it. Some very large rocks he was just satisfied to remove enough to get below tillage depth.
