NW Iowa | Where I farm the normal rock is baseball and football to basketball sized with a few kitchen table sized that farmers use for lawn ornaments. About fifteen miles southeast of where I live there has been a six foot tall rock sticking out of a field for as long as I can remember. Folklore has it the part of the rock we see is just the tip of it. The rest is underground. I would think a few strategically placed sticks of dynamite would crack it into manageable sized pieces that modern equipment could handle. Dad used to crack rocks with dynamite until a friend was killed from a delayed blast. He quit after that incident. Dynamite has been used to carve out roads and railroads in the mountains for well over 100 years, probably 150 years. One of those mountain guys would probably look at our big field rocks and yawn. | |
