west-byGod-Pa. | Something I was never taught by parents, church, or school was the value of creativity. Once our locally blacksmith retired, I got a buzz-box welder & learned to weld. Repairing/ re- designing/ altering equipment became the best part of farming for me. I so wish I had gone to welding school rather than college. The degree I got is worthless to me. Welding is one of the trades that are imminently portable, & once perfected, "mostly" stays for life. Others in the family are all about field work, so, family wise, such differences in personality can be complimentary. I can still look at some of the things I fixed/ altered with satisfaction.
I have learned that way too many people" working for the man are doing awful, mindless, or otherwise unfulfilling work. I walked into the main building of a very substantial regional freight company & saw a number of young women facing computer screens each facing a wall, about 15 in the room, just looking a rows of numbers on each screen, tracking freight. I cannot comprehend spending a lifetime just looking at a screen like that.
Just the other day, I walked into a local grocery store & two ladies were in a corner section, display counters in front, working at setting up floral bouquets for display. I said to the one :" you two have the best job in the place". She agreed | |
