WC IL | Do you select the hybrids you plant based on seed size or genetics?
Some crosses almost always produce heavy seed. Some crosses almost always produce small seed. All are affected by growing conditions.
In a perfect world you could always get 47.2 pound rounds in any hybrid, if that is what you want. But biological systems don’t work that way.
I’m sure his seed salesman could find some different size seed, but it might not be in the right hybrid. 51# seed isn’t exactly huge. His planter should plant it just fine, so he’s trying to figure out what he needs to change so it will.
