We typically do not use a pre as it always seemed to us that most of the chemical would end up on the plant, not on the soil surface, as long as you have a decent stand of covers. The weaker the stand, the more likely a pre would help. We are trying a few trials of pre for the first time just to see if we notice anything different. A few threads up someone asked a similar question and has some interesting replies, and one link showing that a pre probably helps more than I realize!
