nw/nc iowa on the banks of West Buttrick Creek.. | Started out with 200 acres of heavy wet black untiled soil and $1500 I made from scooping corn and baling hay. Biggest mistake was buying cheap machinery that no one else wanted when it came time to trade up. Ended up with a great wife and family of successful kids and now fun to watch grandkids succeed. Had been a lot easier if I had been born entitled, just waiting for a relative to die to take over the next family farm.
Never could impress the farm managers so I had to just go out and buy land. Looks like a pretty good choice looking back. Should have bought a 160 and a 4020 the day I graduated, it would of/could of been pretty weel paid for when the 80's came along. |
