Stearns County Central MN | We have a new to us planter that has spiked closing wheels. However, we are in a rocky loam and sandy loam soil. Every couple acres or so a little rock the size of a baseball or smaller gets caught in the spiked closing wheels. We used to have smooth, closing wheels and never had an issue. Do we need to go back to the smooth closing wheels? I can understand the advantage of the spike closing wheels as they really firm the seed nicely, but I can’t deal with getting out every round because a rock is dragging. I have tried to offset the spike closing wheels and that doesn’t help either…HELP!! |
