A big part of the issue is those grants.
With the system we have, it is very important to get them.
The thing is, we sent the money to the government, they get their cut. Then they decide if they will give it back to us and how we will spend it.
I gladly give to the local departments and am grateful for the service they provide.
ON the other hand, it would be hard to give money for a new truck when that money is earned by a 1993 or older tractor. Especially when some of those departments do not have any one even show up for a call.
We have several local departments that are top notch and are pretty well ran, ,so I am sure not complaining about them.
I have told the story before about getting a call we had a truck on fire.
I live under 3 miles from the yard and had just gotten out of that truck and was on my home when we got the call about the truck. I turned around and went back. The fire was out and the department was already gone.
Less than 15 minutes from the time I left until I was back and they had gotten there and got the fire out.
I am just curious on the tire issue.
What would keep some one from trading tires with the department? Run them 2 years, put on new. I would bet most places a farmer or trucker in the area would be willing to buy new tires and swap them out. Assuming, they are not an odd size.
