UP / Thumb of Michigan | We have a country and government to keep running. I think generally speaking, everyone can agree to that.
And thats where the agreement among everyone ends. How much do we need, and whats a fair way to pay for it.
Many people happen top agree with the President in that we're paying for more than what we're getting. Either in waste, unneeded programs, or just laziness in some cases.
That opinion grinds on some. Its obvious everywhere, not just on NAT.
Heres where the divide happens, and it has forever.
One answer is to get less government. I don't care for how its been handled myself I was hoping for a little more surgical approach. Thats not what we're gonna get, may as well strap in and see where it goes.
The other opinion is the same as its always been- we just need to get more money out of people. Of course, other people is the best people. And while we're at it, lets just knock those nasty rich folks down a notch. Punitive taxes to the rescue. Lets come up spreadsheet, a graph, an unproven mathematical formula, a pie chart that gets the natives all riled up. Its as plain as the nose on your face- better days ahead for everyone if we could only get "them" to pay their fair share. Its not anything to do with overspending and mismanagement by our elected officials- and worse yet, the unelected bureaucrats in your state capital and in DC. Oh no- its all on the shoulders of those who've accomplished more financially than the rest of us have. Whether they earned it or were born to it makes no difference.
They're the enemy.
And thats what keeps us occupied rather than dealing with the real issues.
I don't necessarily like to pay taxes, but I do it anyway. I'm glad that we have a country where we do get to do that on some level to be honest. Most third world nations don't have that problem, and I don't want to trade places with them. I do have a problem with a progressive tax system. Its opened up the potential for my formally mentioned dislike of punitive taxes. Because I can't get myself convinced that good tax policy means capitalism needs a governor placed on it. | |
