We are on year 3 of 6-8 calves.
Separate them Or they’ll play suckface all the time.
2x a day feedings
So if they fresh off momma wait 6-12 hrs.
We feed at 6:30am and 6:30-7:30pm so it is spaced out. 1-2 days starting them then they figure it out and come up to the end to get fed.
Bomgaars has the milk replacer with clear fly in it. You’ll be feeding for prob 10 weeks. Figure 50#+ of milk replacer per calf. First year we didnt use this and the flys were horrible after it warmed up. You gotta start using it now to help with the flys down the road. Also sprayed the pins when needed.
Shove calf starter pellets in their mouth after every feeding.
Put some milk replacer powder mixed in with the pellets.
Have vit B Complex, ad &e on hand, electrolytes, and antibiotics. This year weve given more shots than the prior 2
Put together.
Give 7 way shot and scour guard shot.
Towards end of feeding we cut the bottles back to 1/2 rate if milk replacer. Then just 1 bottle a day. To slowly ween them seems to work for us. Could prob ween quicker but this worked for us and no sickness or death at weening.
We call the calves the “peanut gallery” as they voice they are hungry ect. We have them penned up between the house and the barn so we see them everytime we go outside or come home, leave.
