We've only done beef calves. It's best to have two people, but one can do it. We get them on a straw bale with front legs one side of the bale and back legs on other side. Then one person holds them and the other prys their mouth open and tries to get the nipple in. Sometimes you can get your finger in and squeeze the nipple to get some milk out. If you cut the slots in the nipple a little longer it helps to get them started, but listen close for gurgling like they're getting some down the wrong pipe. We have an old nipple that's been cut a little and is really soft to help them get started
