E.Central MN | When I started college, one of my jobs was working for a grad student that was raising corn in the university plots. We planted it at a relatively high rate and once it came up we hand thinned it with a hoe, making several passes to get the final population spacing that he wanted. If we had known what final spacing he wanted, we would have been more aggressive in thinning it the first time through. Some farmers used to run a rotary hoe to reduce a stand that was too high, some guys pulled a tine harrow cross wise. | |
