This Canada split thing is nothing new. I winter in Mexico where it is 80% Canadian snow birds. Provinces are much more independent than states in US. French Canadians are despised by the non Frenchies. Alberta has the most resources. They were sick of Trudeau and liberals but were far more afraid of the conservative movement they see in the US. But still they have more national pride than the average US citizen.
Canadians know more about US policies than the average US citizen. IMO.
