East of Broken Bow | I always wondered why some people get upset about not having new enough fire trucks to have full emissions. A truck that gets driven 2000 miles a year can't put out that much pollution.
Also, I have a nephew that works in a fire truck factory. He has definite opinions on things, but honestly his biggest concern with the new trucks is the amount of complexity that they have on them, most of which is due to government standards that are being handed down. For example, they are building new trucks that have sensors in the driver's seat. Once the driver gets out of the seat, the truck cannot be moved without someone haveing the proper key fob sensor, so if they need to move the truck a little bit, they cannot do it. It is set up so you cannot just leave the fob in the truck, either. If you leave the fob in the truck, you need to shut it off, and restart it anytime you want to move it, if you do that.
Another thing he mentioned is that when they were still locally owned a few years ago, they would build 250 trucks in a year. A year or two ago they got bought out by a bigger company when the original owners retired, and the price of a new truck has more than doubled in 2 years. | |
