Malta, Illinois | There is no real solution. You can't make a country buy something from you that you don't have or something they can buy cheaper from another country. It is that simple. We will always trade with China but it will ebb and flow under it's own power. They have incredibly cheap labor so they will continue to manufacture cheap widgets and America will keep buying them because we are addicted to cheap crap. China will buy grain from us when they need to but we will be the vendor of at least second choice. There are things that can and should be addressed. The manufacture of things like pharmaceuticals needs to come back to the United States to ensure that their is an adequate supply. With China manufacturing close to 95% of the drugs being prescribed in this country that is an incredible vulnerability. My concern is that any agreement reached will be for show and bragging rights but will leave the important issues unaddressed. | |
