Frost,Mn | Our department is just at the start of replacing our 25 year old pumper. The expected cost is $750K, and that’s a common sense truck for interior fires. We are a community of 200 people, cover a little over 2 townships, and a stretch of I90. The old truck only has 25,000 miles but things are starting to show up from age and we are forced to keep in top shape to pass certifications and pump tests while still sitting on like new tires but yet 25 years old. The only way the new truck purchase is going to happen is being awarded grants, FEMA usually will come through with a big portion, up to 90 percent but the whole process takes time. It’s a tough situation but the liability is huge and the equipment absolutely has to work, not fix as fails like some farms are operated. | |
