Southern Indiana | With my job I end up dealing with emergency personnel quite a bit and I have never seen a fire department or fire chief that didn’t want a new truck. I’ve worked for a municipality for almost 10 years and 3 or 4 chiefs and all wanted a new truck. I can literally count on one hand the amount of fires they have been to in the town limits in 10 years and everyone was a total loss. Your station may be different but I bet here it’s 2000:1 medical runs to fires or more. The neighboring rural dept actually fights fire with trucks from the 80’s 90’s and early 2000s. I’d say if no one on the department has looked into grants then they don’t need a new truck. You can get fairly new city trucks that need reworked for basically nothing. | |
