Latimer, Iowa (north central) | Adding a few more pics of this years crops and some issues.
First 2 pictures is one of this year’s oat fields.
Next couple are another of this years fields. Not sure if my oat seed or cover crop seed last fall was contaminated with a little rye, this the only 90 acres out of 1700 affected, and the only one with this variety, so seed is suspicious…. There is a little rye coming. So 2 days of hand hoeing it is about all gone. Need to maintain gluten free status of the oats so a gator and a hoe it is…
Next couple are hybrid rye for seed production. I planted it on a field we had small square baled. Windrowed it with the combine and it concentrated the volunteer oats in the windrow. So every 50 feet across the field the volunteer oats choked out there last fall. Lesson is don’t plant seed turbo a field that straw was baled…
Little wet to plant so back to hauling chicken poop
